Our Day Case Surgical Centre provides a comfortable, welcoming environment where you can relax knowing you are in safe hands. Also with our fixed cost care package you have the reassurance of knowing what you will pay before your treatment has commenced.

Although a hernia operation can be performed under either local or general anaesthetic, at Probus Surgical Centre this operation is only performed under local anaesthetic.

We can also offer self-pay hernias in the East of the County at Liskeard Community Hospital or Stratton Community Hospital.

Mr Arumugam

(Available at Probus Surgical Centre)

Mr Arumugam (Aru) has been a Consultant in General Surgery at the Royal Cornwall Hospital since 2004. He specialises in Colorectal Cancer surgery, surgery for inflammatory bowel disease & functional bowel work.       Mr Arumugam is an experienced hernia surgeon and is a visiting consultant at the Probus Surgical Centre.

Clinical Interests related to Probus Surgical Centre: Hernia Repair – Laparoscopic and open for inguinal and incisional / umbilical and femoral hernia.

Academic Background: MS, FRCS(Ed), FRCS (Gen Surg), PGCE

Mr Sheikh Ahmad

(Available at Probus Surgical Centre)

Mr Sheikh Ahmad is a consultant surgeon at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro as a specialist oncological, reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgeon. He has wide experience with several disciplines of surgery including colorectal surgery, breast surgery and abdominal hernia repair.

Clinical Interests related to Probus Surgical Centre: Hernia Repair –under local anaesthetic inguinal and incisional / umbilical and femoral hernia.

Academic background: Masters in Surgery (MS), FRCS (Eng) FRCS Gen Surg England, FRCSI – Oncoplastic (Oncological Reconstructive Breast Surgery) fellowship.

Professional membership: Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Member of the Association of Breast Surgeons, Member of ASIT.

Mr Eric Drabble

(Available at Liskeard Community Hospital or Stratton Community Hospital)

Mr Drabble has over 30 years’ experience as a Consultant surgeon since 1997.   He trained in Oxford and qualified in London in 1985.

Mr Drabble has a particular interest in the delivery of high quality day case general surgery and hernia repair surgery in more local, patient friendly and focused centres. He will tailor treatment and surgery to an individual patient’s needs and circumstances, and having pursued such a practice for several years as well as a teaching hospital practice, takes pride in delivering a reliable practice with extremely low local recurrence rates and rapid recovery from surgery and return to normal activities post treatment.

Mr Sivakumar Gopalswamy

(Available at Probus Surgical Centre and St Clare Medical Centre)

Mr Siva is an experienced Consultant General Surgeon working in NHS and a visiting Consultant Surgeon at Probus Surgical Centre.

Mr Siva is working at Royal Cornwall Hospital since April 2005. He specialises in both upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery. He delivers high quality day case operations in general surgery. His special interest is in gallbladder and hernia problems. He deals with very complex hernia problems at Treliske hospital. He is also General Paediatric Surgeon.

Mr Siva is a faculty of Royal College of Surgeons in teaching Basic Surgical Skills and Core Laparoscopic Skills for trainees. He is an Educational and Clinical Supervisor for trainees and voted as the best foundation educational supervisor in the trust. He is also honorary teaching fellow of the University of Exeter Medical School. He has numerous publications in scientific journals.
