News: December 2016
It has been more than12 months since our last newsletter and although since that time the Surgical Centre has continued to grow we have seen a change in our senior surgical manager. Dr Mike Morgan left the Centre at the beginning of this year and we are very pleased to announce that Mrs Debbie Way joined the team as the new Senior Surgical Manager in November 2016.
Debbie is herself from the village of Probus having lived here for the past 26 years and brings a wealth of experience having worked as a senior surgical manager at Royal Cornwall Hospital for a number of years. Debbie is focused on delivering high quality patient care closer to people’s homes and in a tranquil, calm environment which was one of the factors in attracting her to this role as she was particularly impressed with the standard of care that our patients receive whether the patient is being treated at Probus Surgical Centre itself or at one of the locations that we deliver our services from.
“I am both delighted and excited to have been appointed to the to the post of senior surgical manager at Probus Surgical Centre and have applied for CQC co-registered manager status. I have been made to feel so welcome and would like to thank everyone for their support. It is a well-known fact that the NHS in general is going through a very pressured time, facing challenging financial shortfalls and needs radical reform. In recognition of this and to try and address the issues in health and social care, in December 2015, a five-year plan called the sustainability and transformation plan was announced. The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) is a response to the NHS England Five Year Forward View and Devolution Deal and aims for Cornwall to:
- Improve the health and wellbeing of the local population.
- Improve the quality of local health and care services.
- Deliver financial stability in the local health and care system
This is going to be a very exciting era for the surgical centre and will enhance the already partly established collaborative and partnership working with the Trust and other GP partners, which will provide even more choice to the Cornish population.”
We continue to be a respected and popular provider of hand, vasectomy and abdominal hernia surgery and, in Cornwall, we have contributed significantly to what is probably one of the best cataract services in the Country. We also offer and provide hernia, hand and vasectomy surgical procedures in six other locations: Stratton Hospital; Stratton Medical Centre; Liskeard Community Hospital, Oaktree Surgery in Liskeard; Meneage Surgery in Helston and Morrab Surgery in Penzance.
Through collaborative working as a sub-contracted work arrangement with Royal Cornwall Hospital we are currently able to also offer oculoplastic and oral & maxillofacial surgery at Probus Surgical Centre.
Watch this space for future service developments as we enter this exciting time of NHS adaptation and change. Please feel free to contact Debbie at any time with any comments, feedback or suggestions in regard to the service – email firstname.lastname@example.org or on 01726 885104.
