“Having been referred to Probus for a consultation with the surgeon, I was diagnosed with a Hernia. The Surgeon was very reassuring and gave me the options of having the operation at Probus with local anaesthetic or at Treliske with general anaesthetic. I chose Probus and was surprised to be given an appointment within a week. I am writing this a day after surgery.
On arrival I was met by a nurse who took me through to a private room and explained fully what would happen, signed my consent with the surgeon, I was then given some medicine including antibiotics. A short time after I was taken through to the theatre. I was made comfortable and following two small injections which were said to be the worst part, then the surgeon began the operation, I found the injections relatively painless and nothing like I expected. During the operation the two nurses and the Surgeon chatted away casually, while all the while he was working on my Hernia. Halfway through we had covered children, hobbies, and by now I felt completely at ease despite the fact I watched the stitching go on, there is a slight sensation of touch but no pain whatsoever. Within about an hour I was back out had a coffee and biscuits and then the nurse filled out my discharge papers, gave me a doggie bag of meds to take home and that was it.
I was both very impressed and relieved. Probus feels like an intimate private Hospital and less intimidating than the Hospitals I have visited. From start to finish I felt very well cared for. I would not hesitate again to elect for the local anaesthetic route at Probus Surgical Centre again.”
